Whether your project consists of a traditional trench foundation or a complex caisson system, Berger can perform all your detail excavating needs. With an experienced staff of operating engineers, Berger can stage a safe, multifaceted excavation, under the most grueling circumstances. In addition to our operating engineers, we employee an equally qualified staff of skilled union laborers needed to work along side our equipment.
Regardless of the size or the complexity of a project, staging and coordination with other subcontractors is critical. Planning of any excavation begins during the bidding stage of the project, when the estimator reviews plans and begins to formulate a staging plan. This staging plan is reviewed with the general contractor, prior to the submittal of any proposal, in order to reduce any conflicts with other subcontractors. Berger works closely with soil retention contractors on any special foundation project. It is through staging and coordination that Berger meets and often exceeds project schedules.
Berger's reputation for successfully completing many complex foundation excavations has earned repeat business and consulting services from numerous clients.
Sample Projects:
- Lutheran General Hospital (Park Ridge, IL) – As a subcontractor on this project we performed all of the excavation necessary for the 35 foot deep foundation required to support the new bed tower. This project involved working concurrently with the caisson contractor, while maintaining sanitary sewer and water distribution lines suspended above the excavation area. Service to the hospital was never interrupted throughout the excavation process.
- Wauconda High School (Wauconda, IL) – This project included the execution of many various excavations over the course of two years for an addition which nearly doubled the size of the High School. The school remained open throughout the course of the project by phasing the work. It was critical that the parking areas and athletic field remain operational throughout the two year construction period.
- Fifth-third Bank (Multiple Locations in Northern Illinois) – Through various locations in Northern Illinois we have preformed foundation excavations on multiple new Fifth-third bank locations. Many of these locations involve sites with limited work areas and critical time schedules. One particular location was delivered to the owner turnkey ready in less than 90 days due to the cooperation and coordination of all contractors involved.
- Target Corporation (Schaumburg, IL) – As a subcontractor this project was a major addition to the existing store and required an entire new storefront, all while the store remained open.
- Dundee Crown High School (Carpentersville, IL) – As a subcontractor this project involved the excavation for three simultaneous additions and extensive sitework all to be completed without closing the school.
- Lake Forest Hospital, Prairie Crossing Campus (Grayslake, IL) – As a subcontractor this project required a partial basement and slab foundation to be completed in December regardless of the weather conditions. This involved great coordination with the General Contractor, the Concrete Contractor, and Berger Excavating.
